Another waste of plastic – Poundland guilty

Poundland has been accused of creating unnecessary plastic waste by selling nothing, complete with heart-shaped packaging, for Valentine’s Day.

Called the Gift Of Nothing, the product is on sale for one pound and is accompanied by the taglines “exactly what you asked for” and “less is more”.

While some have found the novelty gift funny, environmental groups have labelled it “a symbol of everything that is wrong with our view of the world.”

Julian Kirby, lead campaigner on plastics at Friends Of The Earth, told the Press Association: “It’s just about a puzzle in itself.

“Who might really need this, and who might get it?

“Whatever is left of the world sees the requirement for just the most fundamental plastics, with a quick eliminate of all other inefficient plastics, so how about we trust imprudence like this goes disliked and doesn’t re-show up.”

Poundland protected the item as “a touch of fun”, however did not clear up whether it could be reused.

“Our clients adore it as do heaps of others on the web,” Poundland said in an announcement.

“They all know it’s a touch of fun and we comprehend that is still permitted with some restraint.”

Sian Sutherland, prime supporter of against Plastic battle bunch A Plastic Planet, stated: “In what manner can Poundland think this is OK?

“This item is intended to go straight into the container yet will keep going for a long time.

“It is an image of everything that isn’t right with our perspective of the world. We are treating our lovely planet like it is expendable when it is all we have.”

Here at SMMTco2 we do not condone such mindless waste. Plastic is everywhere but let’s not make the situation worse with empty product packaging!
